DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Nurse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations, supervising staff, and managing onboarding, education, and competency maintenance. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care through effective leadership and hands-on support in assigned nursing unit(s) or area(s). The Nurse Supervisor fosters a collaborative environment that encourages shared decision-making and continuous improvement in nursing and patient care outcomes.

This position is accountable for maintaining patient care quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness in collaboration with physician and nursing leadership. The Nurse Supervisor works closely with healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and serves as a key resource for staff, physicians, students, and other stakeholders. They supervise clinical staff, ensuring care is delivered at the highest standard while modeling professional nursing practices.

In addition, the Nurse Supervisor supports the management of personnel, budgets, and material resources. They may take responsibility for unit operations in specific areas or during the manager's absence. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN).

  • RN license issued by the State of California.

  • BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated recent (within the last 5 years) acute care RN experience in Pulmonary Special Procedures/Interventional Pulmonology or GI, IR, ICU, and/or Perioperative Services.

  • Demonstrated charge nurse and/or supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrated skills to supervise clinicians effectively and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a patient care unit.

  • In-depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations, and internal policies.

  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources matters and employee performance. Provides input to decision-makers on human resources matters.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate levels of intervention and develop and apply effective solutions.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem-solving with all levels of management and staff, consultants, and outside agencies.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner. Prepares and presents a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.

  • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments.

  • Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.

  • Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events, and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Master's Degree of Science in Nursing (MSN).

  • Experience working in Interventional Pulmonology.

  • Lean Six Sigma Certification.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $128,800 - $252,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $61.69 - $120.79

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
